Brenna Huckaby is a 2 X Paralympic champ in the sport of snowboarding and is gunning for more gold in 2022! She made her international debut in the sport at age 19, took the next season off to have a baby, then at just 22, made her Paralympic debut (and won).
Brenna’s first sport love was gymnastics. Then at 14 years old, she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer which resulted in the amputation of her right leg above the knee. After having to give up gymnastics, she found snowboarding, and the rest is history as they say!
In this episode Brenna shares her story, talks about internalized misogyny and ableism, women in sport, and building a gold medal mindset (including the mindset shift that allowed her to go from a technical error to winning the race). She also talks about her training, what it’s like competing after having a child, and why she uses social media to advocate and make an impact on the causes she believes in.
